UVLEDTEK awarded First Prize in the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Chinese Institute of Electronics
On January 26, the Chinese Institute of Electronics officially announced the list of winners of the 2025 Science and Technology Awards. The project "Core Technologies and Industrialization of High-Power Semiconductor UV LED Light Sources," jointly completed by UVLEDTEK, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, Xiamen University, and other well-known universities and enterprises, was awarded the First Prize of the 2025 Science and Technology Progress Award of the Chinese Institute of Electronics.
The project was recognized for its outstanding innovation and application value in key technologies and industrial applications of high-efficiency semiconductor ultraviolet LED chips, marking a significant breakthrough in the field.
The project focuses on key technologies and applications of high-efficiency semiconductor ultraviolet LED chips. It addresses core challenges in critical areas such as material epitaxial growth, chip fabrication, device packaging, and light source integration, successfully developing high-performance semiconductor UV LED materials, chips, devices, and integrated light sources.
The achievement involves significant technical difficulty and strong innovation, with fully independent intellectual property rights and controllable core technologies. It has substantially promoted the large-scale application of ultraviolet LED devices in China, reaching an overall internationally advanced level. In particular, the light output control technology for high-efficiency UV LED chips and the high-power UV LED packaging technology have reached internationally leading standards.
The results have been successfully applied in high-end products of leading enterprises across multiple industries as well as in national defense and industrial sectors, contributing to the advancement of new quality productive forces and innovation-driven development.

The Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Institute of Electronics was established in 2003 and is awarded annually. Approved by the State Administration for Science and Technology Awards, it is one of the recognized awards with qualification to recommend national-level Science and Technology Awards.
The award aims to recognize outstanding scientific achievements and teams in the fields of electronic information, including scientific research, technological development and innovation, promotion and application of research results, and industrialization. Its high prestige is reflected in a strict evaluation system that comprehensively assesses scientific and technological level, technical difficulty, contribution to industry advancement, as well as social and economic benefits.
The award is divided into three categories: Natural Science Award, Technological Invention Award, and Science and Technology Progress Award. Each category includes First, Second, and Third Prizes. First Prize projects must demonstrate internationally leading technical levels and significant impact, representing frontier breakthroughs in the industry.
